HELLO AGAIN

Acne Coverage, Date Night Make Up Tutorial!

Wednesday, 25 February 2015

As many of you know, I'm suffering with 'adult acne' at the moment. It's one of those dreaded things that makes you feel so bad every time you look in the mirror, and It's safe to say that I've had my fair share of sleepless nights over it.

I'm the first to admit that I have personal confidence issues, and when your appearance can affect how you intrinsically feel on a day to day basis, acne can take a huge chunk of what confidence and self esteem you have away.

When It comes to dating, I'm in a long term relationship (3yrs+) and although we live together, M  works super long hours, meaning he sees me more bare faced than with make up on. When we try to make an evening a little bit special, I try and make more of an effort with my make up and hair, whilst still remaining natural at the same time. I think of it more like enhancements, rather than an all out club night look - if you get what I mean.

I wanted to share a Date Night make up look that I wore on a recent date night to the Hakkasan which is a Michelin starred restaurant here in London. The food was fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed it as we hadn't been there in a few months.

As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this look! Let me know in the comments, and of course, don't forget to subscribe to my channel so you never miss a video!
Em xxx

  10. Hi Em,
Thank you for sharing your personal tory and the tutorial with us! I've suffered from acne all my life, from pre-teen through to adulthood. In the last 5 years my skin quieted down and breakouts were localized and small, which I was grateful for, but still very frustrating. What am I doing wrong? Is it the environment? The weather? My stress? My nutrition? Am I filthy? What is it?! It can drive you mental! I only started wearing makeup 6 months ago once I decided I was tried of feeling ugly all the time, waiting for my face to look "perfect" was never going to end, and hopefully I could treat/cover a few imperfections.

When I started reading beauty blogs and watching youtube beauty gurus I felt like the ugly girl trying to fake and copy the beautiful girls' skin and faces. 'I could never look like that!' I thought. And still do. I found your blog via google looking for makeup recs for pale skin. All this time I've been following you I've enjoyed your posts and videos and still thought to myself "She's so sweet! She's soooo beautiful! And smart! And knows makeup! I could never look like that!" I am so shocked to find out that you have acne. You cover it so well, I never suspected! I feel like my world view shifted because you make me believe I can make my skin look clear, and my face its absolute best. Thank you! I know beauty isn't everything, and self-esteem is influenced by so much more, but this small knowledge - that someone I admire is in the same boat as me, and has a solution that I can adopt, is really encouraging. So again, Thank You & All the Best in your journey to a clear skin!

  13. Just wanted to say hello and:
I too suffer from adult acne. It comes and goes. When I'm very depressed it gets so much worse, to the point where my whole face hurts. I understand what it's like.
You're beyond brave showing yourself before and after. But just remember you are more than just your skin. I have no doubt the people that matter don't give a crap about your acne. *hugs*

  15. Now that I am almost 27 my skin has started to calm itself down, but when my acne was at its worst a couple of years ago the only thing that helped me was eating tonnes of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). And by "tonnes" I mean 10 grams every day. :P I am actually still amazed about how good it worked. Also made my skin less oily.

  16. I was having adult acne for awhile and went to my doctor to have my hormone levels tested, i was was put on a different birth control pill and my skin has cleared up, i was also given the face wash panoxly which has done wonders for my skin you can find it on amazon. Adult Acne can be an imbalance of hormone levels which could be a more serious problem or not. My prolactin levels were high so i had to get an MRI done of my head, luckliy thats okay but i now have to see about the possibility of premature ovarian failure. Do yourself a soild and have your hormones checked out by a doctor

  17. Hey, not to be an armchair dermatologist, but I was misdiagnosed with acne when I had rosacea (a skin disorder that affects people with pale skin and that can look like acne). Your skin looks a lot like mine did before getting properly diagnosed. Hopefully that helps! Keep up the great work, lovely lady!

  21. This is brilliant, I have suffered from adult acne and it is helpful to see how to cover this up without looking like you're wearing a tonne of make-up. I also wanted to say, that I pushed my doctor to refer me to a dermatologist and I was put onto Roaccutane - this is a harsh drug and has a few side affects you need to be aware of but it works! I haven't had one single spot since coming off this drug over a year ago. I got married last August and knowing I didn't have to worry about my skin was an amazing feeling. I would recommend this drug to anyone suffering with acne!

  22. Make up is meant to have fun with and bring out your features. You are amazing! I don't wear much make up because to be quite honest I don't know how or what to use. I suffer from acne and excema. I have been made fun of my entire life, and it never stops hurting no matter how old you are. You really inspire me to attempt one of your beautiful looks. Thanks so much for putting yourself out there, enduring criticism, and sending the message that everyone is beautiful. You are really inspiring on so many levels.

  26. I'm 56 and suffered from adult acne up to about 40. Now my skin is spot free and I look much younger than my age. That's an advantage of having oily skin!! I know it's a long time to wait, and I wish someone would solve this problem for sufferers now (including my daughter) but may it give you some comfort that there may be a time when your acne will finally be a positive for you!

  27. Em, beautiful result. I'm going to check to see if you have a video on how to put on lashes and apply eyeliner...I'm very challenged in this area :)

  28. Wow. I saw your 'You look disgusting' video on sunrise and had to check out your blog... and I've added you to my favourites!

Just wanted to say that you have BEAUTIFUL features with or without make up. You do an amazing job of enhancing your natural beauty with make up (with skill that I'm in awe of), but your make up free photos are amazing. I wish I had your eyes and bone structure! As someone who wears make up on a daily basis... I'm jealous and wish I looked like you WITHOUT the make up!

  29. You are an inspiration! I saw your video on the BBC site and had to come and check out your blog. The comments you received were disgusting, those kind of people are the ugly ones.

I was lucky enough to have good skin when I was younger but in my late 30's hormones started to cause acne and now in mid 40's I have days where I want to sit and cry it's painful and ugly. Spots are just spots though, and beauty is about a lot more than blemish free skin. You are a beautiful woman and no one can take that away! Keep up the good work!!

  30. Saw your page linked on the BBC and I wanted to say what a wonderful job you are doing. I recently developed adult acne too and it is the reactions of others that causes the most shame. I try to keep the make-up to a minimum to let my skin heal (it tends to break me out), but I get stares of obvious disgust from people. It is upsetting and embarrassing.

You are brave to put yourself out there and show the audience how the magic trick is done. :o) Best of luck to you.

  31. Hi Em, you are very good at doing your make up!. I never learned! I wanted to leave some advice on dealing with acne. 1. Wash your face twice a day with a foam, my favourite is Bioelements flash foam cleanser. 2. Spray your face as often as you can with Serozinc by LaRoche Posay. 3. Take zinc supplements and 1000mg daily of vitamin C. 4. Let your pores breathe - don't use foundation every day, I haven't seen one that won't clog your pores if used continuously. 5. Avoid fatty foods (cheese, butter, fried food, ice cream, chocolate etc). Acne can be either a hormonal imbalance (excess testosterone) or excess fat or your body trying to get rid of fat soluble toxins - so your diet is very important. 6. Eat two big plates of veggies a day! 7. Drink lots of water 8. Use mineral based make up exclusively! I used a lot of cheap make up but one day I decided to throw it all away and start again with brands that don't contain parabens or phtalates (my favourite is Jane Iredale) even Bare Minerals has these nasty ingredients. This last advice is not only for the acne but for your hormonal health in general. Good luck! Tatiana

  32. Hi Em, Tatiana again. I haven't tried the electric brushes to deep clean your pores but I find that a mud mask is really effective at cleaning your pores and also replenishes all the minerals in your skin - you're very young but in your mid thirties you will start feeling the need for some mineral nourishment of the skin. Although your problem is more break outs than black heads or generally clogged pores this is still good and inexpensive.

  33. Hi Em, you look amazing, I use to have acne until I discovered salt, I put on salt overnight and when I wake up I just washed it of and it has done wonders for my face.

  40. You're so pretty! My skin went out of control about two years ago, and just seemed to get worse and worse. I finally went to a skin specialist a fortnight ago and he put me on a medication called akomin 50. Not sure if it's temporary or a permanent fix, but my skin in almost completely clear! Would definitely recommend it (though it can cause headaches *thumb down*). Loving your blog xx
