  1. You are beautiful. But please be careful with your skin, your acne is causing permanent damage to your skin. A competent dermatologist can really make a BIG difference. If one does not work wonders for you, please look for another one. Acne can leave scars that can last the rest of your life (I know). Please please give a dermatologist a try. Anything you might try on your own is like a stab in the dark you don't have the knowledge a doctor has.

  2. +1 for the person above for typing what I was also thinking. Hiding the symptoms rather than finding the underlying cause(s) may actually be exacerbating the condition due to clogging the pores with cosmetics. Not to mention all the crap that goes into them; I don't think all those burnt red bunny eyes got that way because they were crying over not liking their 'makeovers'.

History is replete with men/women compromising their health for the sake of beauty/vanity; why should the C21st be any different?

Everyone is different though so ultimately the best judge in identifying the cause(s) is usually oneself. For me it was a combination of allergies/eczema and stress/anxiety/depression whose underlying cause was HFA. Diet/Lifestyle also factors in heavily. Took me roughly 30+years to suss all of this out too.

FWIW I think you look more beautiful without the makeup but I understand the Catch 22.

P.S I only came here because I saw the great film you posted. Kudos.

  3. Hello . My name is Deborah and I am Brazilian . Sorry for my English but I needed to talk to you . I saw what some have said about products for treating your acne. I'm sure you 've done this and have tried several. I do not know how severe the acne and even if the treatments had little or no effect but I want to tell you that you are perfect . Exactly as it is . No makeup , no nothing. Always be who is dear. I know the nasty comments hurt a lot. I suffered with them but for different reasons and I know that can destroy you . But be strong! Do not let some opinions dictate who you are. Anyone who can not see their beauty is not worth your time or your concern. Continue the wonderful work that , I'm sure , that brings relief and hope to many women . Love yourself for who you are and not what others think you should be. Be you, always . I wish you much success and happiness! You deserve!

  4. Hi

I just clicked on a link to your blog appearing on the BBC website. I'm a guy who for many years has had various skin issues - with lots of them being on my face :-( As you might imagine the scope for me to effectively cover up the issues with make-up has been limited, so unfortunately it has had a significant impact on how I feel about myself and how people view/treat me.

Sadly, I still don't know all the causes/contributory factors for the skin problems I've had/have, but a careful diet seems to be by far the most important aspect of me gaining a degree of control over things. Over the years I've found that products with any dairy, soya and/or fruit sugars in them are something of a no-no, plus foods with a high level of histamine or that can increase my susceptibility to histamine also cause problems. I've also found that changing to no-fragrance no-alcohol personal care face washes/creams has made a big difference.

Most recently I've been using Aqueous Calamine Cream, as a gentle way of reducing any outbreak - it clears things up pretty quickly and leaves the skin feeling as it should do - not overly dry or oily :-)

I hope what I've mentioned proves useful to you and/or your followers. Real beauty is on the inside, but it's great if we can reveal more of that through how we look as naturally as possible.

Take care and good luck with your blog/s

  7. Hi em I know how much of a struggle acne can be. It's painful both emotionally and physically. I found it so frustrating when people would tell me wearing makeup just makes it worse but they dont understand the pain of something so personal and having it out there for everyone to see. I wanted to share a bit of what made a difference for me. One was my diet. Cutting out dairy made a huge difference, you might find this helpful. Another change I made was no longer using conventional beauty products. Everything you would need for healthy skin can be found in your kitchen. I suggest looking up oil cleansing/double cleansing method. A book I found really helpful was The Green Beauty Guide by Julie Gabriel. Apple cider vinegar is a dream for balancing your skin ph and I'm a huge fan of essential oils for spot treatments and healing, especially tea tree oil! Last, honey! Honey is so amazing for acne. If you can afford it, I recommend manuka honey.

  9. Many creams and pills that dermatologist prescribe to you are harmful to your body in the long run.. like your liver and kidneys. These products are supported by big pharmaceutical companies because they get more money because you buy their acne product then 20 years later you're buying another product to try to help your organs. Your lifestyle will help your acne. Cut out stress, sweets and alcohol. Then, if you still have some acne- who cares!! You don't need shallow people in your life... YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL
