I get asked on an almost daily basis which foundations and concealers are the best for pale skin tones, and this series is going to explore all different types of products from varying brands and at all price levels which will hopefully help you to make a decision on which foundation and concealer is right for you!
In universal skin tone terms.. I'm an NC15 in Mac. However, Mac isn't really doing it for me at the moment, so i'm on the hunt for a replacement that will be the perfect foundation for My Pale Skin.
Price: £31.00
Packaging: The foundation comes in a thick glass bottle with a matte black screw cap. The foundation does not come with a pump, and you will have to purchase one separately, I didn't now this when I purcahsed it, so just a heads up. The packaging feels luxe, however I'm not a fan of porous black matte packaging on foundations - purely down to the fact that they take so long to clean and remove any signs of product which has made it's way onto the outside of the lid.
Coverage: I find the Product gives a medium to full coverage. It's a buildable foundation, and applying in different ways will give you a different coverage. For a sheer look, try using a beauty blender and for a full coverage, try using a brush such as the real techniques expert face brush. I like to buff mine in using a buffing brush such as the Nanshy flat top buffer.
Colour: The Nars Sheer Glow foundation in Siberia is the lightest of the entire range. I'm so happy to have found this foundation, as it seems to be the perfect shade for my pale skin, with no orange tones to be seen!
Finish: Although it's called 'Sheer glow' I find that when you first apply it, the foundation does have a dewy glow, however, after buffing I find that It does seem to transform more to the matte end of the spectrum. If you're looking for a dewy foundation, you may find yourself disappointed with the glow not being overly obvious in this one.
Final Verdict: At £31.00, The Nars Sheer glow foundation is the most expensive I've ever purchased, and certainly one i'd recommend you swatch and test to make sure you're happy with before splashing out on it. I love the coverage, and the subtle 'glow' which is more of a sheen, that this product gives. The Nars Sheer Glow in Siberia (Light 1) I'm happy to report has PASSED the pale test with flying colours.
As Always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this foundation or what you'd like me to try next, let me know in the comments.

By the looks of it, this could be my next holy grail product. I really need to swatch it before commiting, though!

I'm always on the look out for foundations that are actually pale enough for my skin, and I haven't yet found one. I've heard good things about this Nars foundation, so I may treat myself in September when my student loan comes through!

This sounds so good! It looks like the perfect pale shade as well, such a shame it's so expensive :( xx

Sounds like a great foundation! I want to try Sheer Glow too at some point, but would only buy it after swatching it in store
ReplyDeleteI keep reading rave reviews again recently so I wore it a couple of times in the last week or so and it just doesn't work for me anymore... I'm much more into lighter formulas (not necessarily lighter coverage though) that it feels heavy and drying on me!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a perfect colour match! xx

I love this foundation so much, but I wish the longevity was a little better! Still, my skin looks marvelous when I wear it :)

I am ridiculously mega pale and Siberia is almost the perfect colour for me (if not a bit yellow), but I am a bit disappointed in it! It goes all funny around my nose and cheeks and clings to dry skin no matter how much I exfoliate & moisturise. Poopoo!
ReplyDeleteThe best foundation I've tried was the Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere (oohh yes so fancy!) but it was super expensive and the palest one was a tiny bit dark for me.

This is a foundation I'm definitely interested in investing in in the future when I'm in a better position to spend that much money on one product x
ReplyDeleteThink I'm going to request this as a birthday present next month :D.
ReplyDeleteBeen looking for a good coverage foundation for my skin tone for ages!!

Went in to store to try this but unfortunately it's too dark for me. Anyone have any suggestions for extremely pale people? (A lot of the time people say they're really pale etc - you're kidding, right? I'm not that dark even with a tan!!)
ReplyDeleteI am looking to buy a new foundation and really want to try Nars sheer glow but there isn't anywhere near me that sells Nars. I have the lightest skin... I'm more like a milk bottle would you recommend this colour? xx
ReplyDeleteI've just ordered one of these foundations! I have really high hopes, so hopefully this foundation won't disappoint. I'm really pale and the only foundation that really worked for me until now is the one from Illamasqua called Skin Base (it was in the number 3, I believe). Both are in the same price range. Currently I've been using the Shiseido Radiant Lifting foundation in the shade O20, but for winter it's too orange for me (kind of my "summer shade"). I love your blog, btw! :)
